BLENDING ART & ACADEMICS

When New York City Chart School of the Arts began in 2016, it had a clear intention­—to to inspire a diverse community of young people to engage with the arts as a pathway to rich and rigorous academic scholarship and a creative, purposeful life.

To represent this mission, school branding needed to bring together art, academics and the importance of standing out as an individual. A dahlia, which symbolizes transition, diversity, individuality and resiliency, was created using heptagons, which connects to the arts and natural phenomena through the seven colors of the rainbow and seven notes in a musical scale.

The tone of the brand is vibrant and expressive, yet composed using affirmative language and honeycombs representing structure, balance, hard work, and wisdom.
